First post here. Crime rate is something to consider -Spartanburg sits at 1,186.6 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 15 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is decent in most areas.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
