Why I chose Speedway over bigger cities

Anyone else feel this way? Median household income is $57,158, which feels about average for the area. Let me know your thoughts.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Austin about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 13 years. Moved from Raleigh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Road conditions need improvement. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The housing market is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Highland) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
