Rent in Spokane Valley getting crazy

Hi all, I'm a 44-year-old software engineer and Homes are going for about $344,300 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think?

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 10 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Road conditions need improvement. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Greenfield for 2 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is average - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The public transit is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Midtown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The public transit scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
