Cost of living reality check — Spokane

Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. With a population of 229K, Spokane is a mid-size city. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The traffic is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in North for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- The safety scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..
