What's it really like living in Spokane?

Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $326,200, which seems about average. It's a a mid-size city city with about 229K people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to.

Used to live on the East side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 39, moved here 12 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Eastside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Can feel isolated
3. The food scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Westside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Dallas about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

No regrets on my end..
