Curious what people think. Average temperature is around 70--F, so the weather is moderate. Anyone in a similar situation?

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The walkability is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Indian.
