Should I move to Spring or stay in Chicago?

We have two kids and With a population of 67,103, Spring is a smaller city. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What neighborhoods would you suggest? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 37, moved here 8 years ago from Houston. I've lived in The Heights and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The housing market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 6 years. Moved from Austin for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Bugs and humidity in summer. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 2 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
