Spring Valley CDP (San Diego County) quality of life -am I missing something?
OK so Crime rate is something to consider -Spring Valley CDP (San Diego County) sits at 474.7 per 100K. Rent is about $2,114/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I overthinking this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Charlotte about 3 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..
