Longtime lurker here, My partner and I are The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 9.1%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Raleigh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Springfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The housing market scene is solid
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Downtown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for school and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The dating scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
