Longtime lurker here, Average temperature is around 70--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $177,500 on average. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. With a population of 8,157, Springfield is a small town. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely decent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Downtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
