Commute times in Springfield -how bad?

Hello, I relocated for work and It's a a mid-size city city with about 114K people. Crime rate is something to consider -Springfield sits at 777.2 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
