Moved here 10 years ago for work. Springfield has a decent market for young professionals. The income situation is decent — median around $65,537. Rent runs about $945/month for a typical apartment. The social scene is pretty active with lots of meetups. Would I recommend it? Absolutely..

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 9 years and my experience is very similar.

Check out the University District area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

I'd add that the parks here are amazing for families. Otherwise spot on!

Rent tip: look for places in fall. Prices drop and there's more availability.
