Life in Springfield as a young professional

Moved here 9 years ago for work. Springfield has a growing scene for young professionals. The income situation is decent — median around $51,339. Rent runs about $1,114/month for a typical apartment. The social scene is better than I expected. Would I recommend it? For the right person, definitely..

Totally agree with this. I've been here 14 years and my experience is very similar.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Pine Grove and Midtown are perfectly safe.

I've lived in Southside for 4 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.

If you can afford it, Highland Park is the best place to live. Period.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Check out the Pine Grove area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

Don't sleep on Eastside. It's up and coming and still affordable.
