Hello, Military spouse here. Household incomes average around $51,339 in Springfield. The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. With a population of 155K, Springfield is a mid-size city. Median household income is $51,339, which feels on the lower side for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Would love some local perspective. Thanks in advance! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
