First post here. Household incomes average around $58,741 in Springfield. With a population of 18,985, Springfield is a small town. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Has anyone dealt with this?

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community vibe is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great craft beer places. it exceeded my expectations.

I've lived in Springfield for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- The safety scene is average
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 31, moved here 12 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Highland and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
