Hello, It's a a small town city with about 10,637 people. With a population of 10,637, St. Albans is a small town. Homes are going for about $131,800 on average. Median household income is $58,788, which feels about average for the area. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Is this normal for St. Albans? The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
