We're a young couple and Rent is about $1,186/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 15 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Riverside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The housing market scene is decent
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
