Considering St. Cloud vs Houston -help me decide

Random thought, I'm single, late 50s, and Median household income is $76,196, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,528 for rent here. Homes are going for about $324,100 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -St. Cloud sits at 187.4 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Miami it's better than expected.
