Studio apartments in St. Gabriel -options?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Poverty rate is 16.3%, which is higher than I expected. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Does this match your experience? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in West area are tough. Kids love it here.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 5 years. Moved from Nashville for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Not very walkable outside downtown. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Midtown for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The walkability scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
