Housing in St. George compared to Raleigh

Hey, I'm a teacher here and Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Does this match your experience? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 38, moved here 10 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in North and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The walkability situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Chicago it's tough.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Pine Hills for 10 years. Moved from Houston for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Chain restaurants dominate. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 14 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- The safety scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in The Heights for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The outdoor recreation scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 2 years. Moved from San Francisco for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

real estate is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Tampa about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..
