Relocating to St. George, UT -pros and cons?

Hi all, Just moved here 9 months ago and Median household income is $72,870, which feels about average for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. What neighborhoods would you suggest? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 55, moved here 4 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Oak Park and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Midtown for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The safety scene is decent

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Raleigh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 9 years. Moved from Miami for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Not very walkable outside downtown. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 1 years. Moved from Raleigh for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is improving - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Can feel isolated. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
