Why I chose St. George over bigger cities

Hey folks, Homes are going for about $456,900 on average. Anyone in a similar situation?

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much stable but now it's tough.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Pittsburgh it's underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from New York about 11 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
- The pet-friendliness scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in construction. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 14 years. Moved from Seattle for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Dating scene is rough. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..
