Working remotely from St. John

Curious what people think. I'm originally from Tampa and The median home value here is around $96,900, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 9.1%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $50,429, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thoughts? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'm a software engineer and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 2 years. Moved from Atlanta for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited shopping options. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
