Planning a move to St. Joseph -neighborhoods?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $884 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -St. Joseph sits at 568.1 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What would you do? The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 35, moved here 3 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Greenfield and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
