There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Background: I'm a project manager, 38, moved here 14 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Old Town and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The cost of living situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Miami about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

I've lived in Fairview for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:

- Strong sense of community
- The community vibe scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
