Starting a business in St. Matthews?

First post here. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 1,626, St. Matthews is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -St. Matthews sits at 473.7 per 100K. Poverty rate is 25.7%, which is higher than I expected. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Austin about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
