So, I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $280,300, which seems about average. It's a a mid-size city city with about 308K people. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for St. Paul? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 2 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
