First post here. My partner and I are The median home value here is around $280,300, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 48°F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Is this normal for St. Paul? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 4 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
