Hi all, Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $65,042, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $943 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -St. Peter sits at 133.0 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Nashville about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in West for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cost of living scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..
