St. Peter quality of life -am I missing something?

I've been here for 14 years and It's a a small town city with about 12,085 people. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Thoughts? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a sales manager and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 26, moved here 12 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Oak Park and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The walkability situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
