My partner and I are Rent is about $1,291/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $252,800 on average. Household incomes average around $89,827 in St. Peters. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Should I be concerned? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Korean places. I love the pace of life here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Oak Park for 9 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is solid - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Limited shopping options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Indian.
No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much growing but now it's challenging.
