Stafford is underrated, change my mind

Been meaning to ask this. Born and raised here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts?

I work in engineering here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is challenging. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in finance. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is solid in most areas.

Moved here from Houston about 15 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to nightlife but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Baltimore about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

I work in retail here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is improving. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Lakewood for 5 years. Moved from Phoenix for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited public transit options. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 39, moved here 15 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Oak Park and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Riverside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
