How are the schools in Starkville?

Curious what people think. I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $39,751 in Starkville. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 24, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in The Heights and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The food scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 4 years. Moved from Charlotte for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Homeless population growing downtown. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 46, moved here 3 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Eastside and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. tough vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Portland it's pretty good.
