Should I move to State Line or stay in Kansas City?
Been meaning to ask this. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -State Line sits at 98.8 per 100K. The median home value here is around $243,900, which is actually reasonable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any advice would be great. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 51, moved here 1 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Uptown and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The traffic is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
