Just moved to Statesville, any tips?

Hey folks, Just moved here 2 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Statesville sits at 627.9 per 100K. Median household income is $55,492, which feels about average for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 6 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
