OK so I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 14.9%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Steelton sits at 65.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. Household incomes average around $55,963 in Steelton. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (East) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely tough and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
