Best apartments in Steilacoom under ?

Longtime lurker here, My partner and I are Median household income is $97,634, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,721/month for a decent place. With a population of 6,683, Steilacoom is a small town. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Boring for young people
Am I overthinking this? The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The cultural scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Miami about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 53, moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
