Rent in Sterling Heights getting crazy

Been meaning to ask this. With a population of 133K, Sterling Heights is a mid-size city. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is decent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from New York about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is tough in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Uptown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
