Is Sterling still affordable?

Hi all, We're a young couple and Rent is about $780/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 9.0%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Cold winters
- Limited dining options
- Limited cultural events
Any advice would be great. Thanks! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I've lived in Riverside for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The job market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor recreation is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 11 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.
