Couple moving to Stevens Point from out of state

Hey folks, It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I overthinking this? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Raleigh it's improving.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 51, moved here 11 years ago from Miami. I've lived in West and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Affordable housing options
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The walkability situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The healthcare is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for weather and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor recreation is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (South) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
