Housing market in Stockbridge right now

So, I'm originally from New York and Homes are going for about $248,000 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,437 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Should I be concerned? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'm a software engineer and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 47, moved here 5 years ago from New York. I've lived in North and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Moved here from Seattle about 7 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to walkability but Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
