So, I've been here for 7 years and Crime rate is something to consider — Stockton sits at 1,396.7 per 100K. The median home value here is around $412,900, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Eastside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
