Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in consulting here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is underrated. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Raleigh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Oak Park area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Chicago it's decent.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
No regrets on my end..

I'm a chef and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is solid and there's always something going on.
