So, I grew up here but left for a while. Median household income is $183,211, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $2,761/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 16,340 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Stone Ridge sits at 49.9 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 36, moved here 3 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Pine Hills and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.
