The good and bad of living in Stonecrest

Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $62,939 in Stonecrest. Crime rate is something to consider -Stonecrest sits at 3,154.7 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Worth the trade-offs? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 54, moved here 14 years ago from Portland. I've lived in The Heights and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Hope this helps!.
