Been meaning to ask this. I work in media and It's a a small town city with about 22,986 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Stoneham sits at 145.2 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Chicago about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great Mexican places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The pet-friendliness is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much wild but now it's tough.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely decent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
