What's it really like living in Stony Brook University?
Alright, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 9,138 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.
Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to.
