Storrs quality of life -am I missing something?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a college student here and You can expect to pay around $1,612 for rent here. Median household income is $33,125, which feels on the lower side for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.
