What I wish I knew before living in Stoughton

Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 13,063 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Stoughton sits at 228.8 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 1.1%, which is pretty low. With a population of 13,063, Stoughton is a small town. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools

Cons:
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Homelessness issues downtown
Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..
