Hi all, I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 1,106 people. You can expect to pay around $929 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What are your go-to spots? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. I've lived in Old Town for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- The safety scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Background: I'm a writer, 49, moved here 15 years ago from Denver. I've lived in East and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
